Brooktrails Garden News

March  2015

Brooktrails Community Garden would like to thank WELL for their generous grant & loan to help repair our greenhouse. As you can see from the photo, the greenhouse re-construction is complete and our members are happy to have it available for the spring starts. We upgraded the entrance with a door, instead of a zipper, and made new vents with wooden frames for the hotter months.

Our garden is looking better every year, with the help of our members and community pitching in and volunteering time, energy, and donations of money and materials. The Redwood Nursery will be expanding this season, moving more to the center/back of the garden where there is more space and air circulation. We plan on building more communal beds toward the center of the garden, so we can take better advantage of the sunlight. This will be an ongoing project as we build and improve the quality of the soil with our compost.

At this time, we have two garden plots available for anyone who is living in Brooktrails and would like to join our garden community. There is a 2 month introductory period where you will learn about the garden, volunteer in the communal and greenhouse area, and at the end of the 2 months, have a garden plot of your own. Now is a good time to get involved; you can start gardening your own plot in May! Join us March 23rd at 6pm for our Spring meeting and potluck at the Brooktrails Community Center.
